What‘s the purpose of elevators?

The purpose of elevators to move individuals or things between a multi-story building’s floors. It additionally gives us help to convey and make it easier for people to convey goods, people, and more.

They are a need in tall business structures, yet they likewise fill a need in private properties. Lifts can give simplicity of development to occupants, permitting them to age set up in their own homes as opposed to moving away to help living offices.

How do Home Elevators Work?

There are primarily 3 functional elements when it comes to residential elevators– The CAR, THE RAIL STRUCTURE and THE DRIVE SYSTEM.

    1. THE CAR: It is a visible portion of the lift which can be customized as per your requirements and home architecture. It transports from one landing to another one with the help of the rail structure.
    2. THE RAIL STRUCTURE: It is mounted on the hoist way. It is responsible for the safety and stability of the system.
    3. THE DRIVE SYSTEM:It is what actually makes the car move on the rail structure. There are different drive systems- the hydraulic drive, the traction gear system and the screw driven technology.

Types of Elevators

This being the popular choice for homeowners looking for a noiseless and
safe ride. It requires a machine room for electrical components and hydraulic
tank and pump. A piston is used to raise or lower the elevator to the desired landing by filling and releasing the fluid into an airtight cylinder. They can also be further categorized into the following types:

1.Hydraulic Elevators:

    • Roped Hydraulic Elevator

This type uses both the ropes and a particular piston that powers the motion of the elevator. The maximum height or distance it can achieve is about 60 feet only.

    • Conventional-type Hydraulic Elevator

It has an elevator pit at the bottom and a sheave that extends up to the floor. Whenever the elevator drops, this pit supports the piston. This too has a distance capacity of up to 60 feet.

    • Hole-less Hydraulic Elevator

It is quite similar to the conventional type. The only difference is that it doesn’t have a heave or hole at the bottom. Instead, it is equipped with telescoping-type pistons at the base. With the help of these pistons, the elevator car can travel for up to 50 feet. Certain designs have non-telescoping pistons as well, which can allow a maximum distance of 20 feet.

The Hydraulic Drive

2. Traction Elevators:

These types of elevators have ropes that pass over a wheel that is attached to an electric motor placed above the shaft. This mechanism is perfect to raise and lower the car of the elevator. It is ideal for all types of homes and is much faster than hydraulic ones. This type of elevator uses a counterweight to balance the load of the occupants and car and complements the job of the motor. It is of two types:

    • Traction Elevators with Gear

hese types of elevators have a gearbox attached to them. This gearbox provides the power to the wheel that helps in moving the rope. The maximum speed of such an elevator is 500 feet/minute. And the maximum distance it can easily accomplish is 250 feet.

    • Traction Elevator without Gear

This elevator doesn’t have gear for speed regulation purposes. Because of this, they can travel at a maximum speed of 2000 feet/minute and to the maximum height of 2000 feet. These types of elevators are best suited for high-rise skyscrapers.

The Hydraulic Drive

3.Screw Driven Lift:

The main components of screw drive lifts are:

      • Electric motor
      • Screw (“threaded steel bar”)
      • Nut (“large drive nut”)

A screw driven lift system works on screw and nut systems. A long screw shaft and drive is utilized to raise and lower the platform. An electric motor is used between the rails. A drive nut on the screw is connected to the electric motor by means of a belt. The drive nut is moved up or down along the shaft as it gets into rotational movement. This type of lift doesn’t even require a machine-room to function because the motor and controller, both are located in the hoistway that eliminates the need for a machine room. A shallow pit or ramp is enough for this type of lift or wheelchair lift.
